EXPO visitors can spot volunteers more easily in the evenings as Shanghai Jiao Tong University students have invented an LED guidance stick to improve their voluntary service.

After starting their voluntary work at the beginning of this month, the university students found that it was difficult for people to find the volunteers among throngs of visitors in the evenings.

A group of students from the School of Mechanical Engineering at the university then made the stick consisting of 32 light-emitting diode (LED) lamps.

When the stick is waved, words and pictures are shown.

They use the stick to display the picture of a "smile" to greet visitors and words such as "Good Night" and "entrance on the right" for quick navigation.
