The door was widely open. Students in formal suits inside the room stood up giving big hands the minute a madam walked to the door. That's the sceneof Li Tianhe Scholarship Awarding Ceremony in the morning of Sep 30. The madam was Li Tianhe (Thomas Lee)'s wife. School of Mechanical Engineeringn (ME) was so proud of inviting Mrs Lee to attend the big event. Prof. XI Lifeng, Executive Dean of ME, Mr. HUANG Xinchang from Division of International Cooperation and Exchange, SJTU, Mr. ZHAO Xin, Director of Student Affairs Office, ME joined the ceremony.

 

Dean Xi, first of all, expressed his warm welcome to Mrs Lee and his family. He then told the life of Dr. Lee Tianhe to students and felt greatly moved by Dr. Li's spirits. He encouraged students to be diligent, keep chasing their dreams and never live up to Dr Lee'expectation. Later, Mrs Lee and Dean Xi issued scholarship certificates to 20 winners this year.

 

 

HAN Zhiyi, representative of Li Tianhe Scholarship winners in the year of 2010, he wished to thank Mrs. Lee for her generosity and continuous concernning on the development of school of mechanical engineering. Moved and guided by the spirits of Dr. Lee’s,such as hard working, perseverance as well as patriotism, they’ve been working hard to actualize the motto of Shanghai Jiao Tong University: not forget the source when we drink water, Love the country and give honor to the school.He personally planed to further his study abroad after graduation, just like what Dr. Lee did half a century ago. He wanted to follow Dr. Lee, learning the most advanced techniques and making his own contribution to his country and his school.

 

BING Feng, who won the scholarship in 2007 talked about his two-year overseas study life in France which was deeply influenced by the spirits of Dr. Lee. He encouraged this year's winners to broaden their knowledge, widen their horizon and keep innovation.
 

 

WANG Miaofegn introduced his university life as a member of Li Tianhe Class. He was greatly honored that his class was named after Li Tianhe in 2006 when he was a freshman. The four short but unforgettable years have witnessed their growth. They won many first prizes in various competition and students enjoyed teamwork very much. After graduation, some of them found a decent job in large state-owned enterprises; some of them chose to study further or study abroad. He expressed that "no matter what we do and no matter where we are, we will keep in mind forever that we are members of class 'Li tian he'. We all believe that our school will be proud of us, just like our famous senior Li Tianhe".

 

 

After the ceremony, Mrs Lee received a short talkshow recalling Dr. Lee's whole life in America and backgroud of setting up the schoarship. Students present were greatly impressed by Dr. Lee's patriotism and personal charming. Later, Mrs Lee gave her autographs "KEEP ON" for ME students, encouraged students to keep on realizing their dreams. Students from Li Tianhe Class gave Mrs Lee their class photographing and souvenir album for memorization.
