SJTU Assists in Organizing 4th MEA REN Workshop

Organized by United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) andWorld Customs Organization Asia-Pacific Intelligence Liaison (RILO A/P), with joint efforts of General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida),  the Seminar on Combating Environmental Crime and the 4th workshop of the Multilateral Environmental Agreement Regional Enforcement Network (MEA-REN) took place in Beijing, on Sep 19-22. 
 
Customs officers, national ozone officers, and MEA representatives from South Asia and Southeast Asian network countries participated the workshop, reviewing the progress of MEA-REN projects and further discussing the future development so as to to enhance the cooperation at both national and regional levels and strengthen implementation of related MEAs. RILO Seminar aims at improving the ability of customs officers on combating environmental crime and enhancing regional enforcement cooperation. The Seminar and the MEA REN workshop altogether created a platform for Customs officers, Ozone officers and MEA Representatives to discuss hot issues addressing environmental crimes and to enhance regional cooperation in this regard.

Entrusted by UNEP, the research group led by Professor CHEN Jiangping from Institute of Refrigeration and Cryogenics, School of Mechanical Engineering, participated in the preparation of the conference. Based on professional knowledge and technical characteristic, combined with large amounts of information, the group provided  tons of special reports. Moreover, YAN Shijie, one of graduates from the group made creative and clear conference posters, whose refined texts and excellent pictures attracted attendees worldwide. General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China sent a commendatory letter highly praising YAN Shijie for his efficiency and conscientiousness as well as the great contribution made by SJTU.
 

 

Professor CHEN Jiangping has long been an expert for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and was invited in 2003 to be the main contributor to  the special report: Safeguarding the ozone layer and the global climate system: issues related to hydrofluorocabons and perfluorocarbons and was therefore awarded Nobel Peace for IPCC in 2007.
