He is now senior engineer in Ford Motor Research Institute; he has won Henry Ford Technology Award - the highest prize of Ford Company for three times; He is the editor-in-chief or member of editorial board for the Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization Journal, International Journal of Reliability and Safety and International Journal of Vehicle Structures & Systems.
  
The Guest Professor Appointment Ceremony in the morning of June 28 was held for him. He is Ren-Jye Yang. The ceremony was held in the conference hall of School of Mechanical Engineering and was attended by SU Xuming, leader of Materials Science Team, Ford Motor Research Institute; HAN Weijian, Director of Asia Pacific Product Develooment, Guest Professor of SJTU; teachers and students in ME-SJTU. Professor PENG Yinghong, President Assistant, on behalf of President ZHANG Jie, issued appointment certificate to him.
 
After the ceremony, Professor Yang delivered an academic report titled Design Optimization in Auto Industry to teachers and students in SJTU. From the perspective of design optimization, he introduced the application of improved optimization method on motor products. Mr. SU Xuming gave an academic report on Fatigue Analysis at Ford, illustrated how to make use of new method to predict fatigue limits of motor material so as to reduce experiment frequency and save time and costs. The next day, Professor HAN Weijian gave an academic report on Well-to-wheel analysis of China's fuel/vehicle alternatives for 2020. Making use of life cycle method and sustainable development vision, he anaylzed new motor technology and alternative fuel providing technical support and decision support to low emission in China motor industry.
