Timken Scholarship Renewal Ceremony took place in Takata Conference Hall of Mechanical Building on April 7, 2010. Ward J. Timken, Chairman of the Timken Company, leadership team of Timken China, professors of ME-SJTU and around 150 students in ME-SJTU witnessed the great moment.

The cooperation between SJTU and Timken dates back to the year 2006, when “SJTU-Timken Scholarship” was formally set up. Since then, the Scholarship has not only funded the SJTU students studies, its internship programs has also offered the students the access to the newest world-leading bearing techniques. In the past three years, altogether 30 SJTU students have benefited from the scholarship. 

Mr. Ward Timken delivered a speech titled Independence and Innovation on the ceremony. Since its entry into China market, Timken has long been dedicated to fostering civil engineers and has always been fulfilling its long-term obligations as an outstanding corporate citizen. Timken has taken pride in its core values – Independence and Innovation – for 110 years. 

Prof. Yingzheng LIU, on behalf of all the teachers and students in ME-SJTU, first of all, thanked Timken for continuing providing scholarship and internship opportunities to students, promoting their learning abilities and widening their research horizon. Meanwhile, he expressed the hope to more in-depth exchange and cooperation with Timken, taking advantage of its rich experiences and technical strengths. 

Both sides believe, with the continuous joint efforts, there is little doubt that the future world-leading engineers will be our bright students from SJTU!
